Secret Plot Against Meat

I'm beginning to think that my band is really a secret plot by someone out there to turn me vegetarian.

I don't get stuck with any frequency on anything except MEAT. All meat, unless it's finely minced and chewed into oblivion... and even then sometimes.

Grrrrr. As much as I love legumes, and I love dairy, neither is as satisfying for the duration as meat is.

I did have a fill on the 22nd, and managed to make it through all of last week with only one stuck episode, on an ill-chewed shrimp. As I type this, however, I'm squirming in agony and spitting into a cup..... which I've been doing for the last 30 minutes. I did the same thing last night and for lunch on soft fish.

ARGH.

I just want to be able to eat lean protein in the form of meat (and eggs, which also get stuck all the damn time) without discomfort.
I know I'm not overfilled, as I'm able to eat just about anything else in more than adequate quantities.

:(

  1. It's hard for a vegetarian too - I used to eat ALOT of tofu as my source of protein. Now, tofu is a big no no for me. It's awful. It gets really stuck. Why is it that I have no trouble with chips and cookies - but the darn tofu makes me feel like I may die?!?!?!

  3. I wonder if you are too full. I mean, if you want to eat meat and it isn't getting through the band easily, you may have to look at how much restriction you need to keep you on track while still permitting you to eat the foods you love. In theory we could keep our bands so tight that only protein drinks went through, but of course we don't do that. Perhaps this would be a good topic to take up with your fill doc.

  4. I don't know about the too full thing. I always try to eat my protein first, so it's not as though I am putting the meat on top of other foods. Usually I get stuck with it within the first three bites or so. :(

I've taken to eating beans or tofu for most lunches to get in protein, and cottage cheese or greek yogurt for snacks. Mornings are a protein shake just because it's always such a rush around here, and my band tends to be a bit more snug in the mornings.

It's very odd what will go through my band. Nuts, veggies, rice, bread (not always, but usually), popcorn, most fruits, pasta, etc. Of course the "danger" foods like cookies or ice cream slide right on by, but I rarely have those around me as temptation. I don't eat fast food at all, so I have no idea how that would go. And I haven't tried "sticky" breads like tortillas.

I discussed it with my surgeon (who also does my fills), both when I was last filled and at my unfill. He seems to think that I just need to focus on chewing and eating conciously, as I'm only at 5.5cc in a 10cc band, so not particularly tight. I know that's dead-on true for me some of the time, but not always.

*sigh* I guess I'll keep on keepin' on with it. The scale showed me down 3.5 this morning (it's not official until tomorrow, though), so it's not all bad. ;)

  5. Lately I've been stuck on eggs too. No matter what time of day, chicken is becoming an issue as well. I'm at 6cc in a 10cc band.
